What to Expect From a Funeral Home

A funeral home, funeral parlour or mortuary, is an establishment that offers Austin Funeral Home and burial services for those that have passed away, as well as their families. These services can include the provision of a funeral home chapel for the funeral and a memorial service. A funeral home may also act as a finalizing agent for all arrangements, including those of the funeral and burial. These businesses do not allow requests from family members, friends or other sources to directly pay for a funeral or memorial service.

There are many different methods for payment in a funeral home. Direct cremation is one payment option available at most funeral homes. This method of payment allows the client to choose whether or not the cremation should be done at the funeral home or at another location. If the client chooses to have the cremation done at the funeral home, all payment will be made directly to the funeral home. If the client chooses to have the cremation performed at another location, all payment will be made to the person who planned the memorial or funeral service. Payment can also be made in cash, by check, by using a credit card or a prepaid direct cremation account.

When selecting a funeral home, clients and family members must disclose any financial assets that may benefit the facility in which the deceased has had his or her remains deposited. This includes any insurance policies (car, homeowners, life) and any stocks, bonds, mutual funds or other financial investments. To make sure that this guideline is adhered to, it is advised that funeral providers hold a discussion with their clients, detailing what they should expect.

Funeral homes generally provide two types of caskets: wooden and metal. Each type of casket has its own specifications as to the types of burial that are permitted. Many times, the only time a casket can be buried is if the remains are to be placed in a mausoleum or vault. However, there are many other situations when the casket can be placed in the ground, including an open-air funeral service where the body is not preserved. For more information on caskets, it is advisable for clients to speak with the funeral home provider about the types of caskets that are used in their facility.

It is important that clients know the cost of caskets as well as what they will be receiving. Some funeral homes charge extra for the removal of the casket from the funeral home and transportation to the cemetery. The cost of the casket itself varies, depending on the material the casket is constructed from and the specific design of the casket. Most full-service funeral providers charge a flat fee for transportation to the cemetery and the burial. In some cases, the cost of caskets can be included in the final price of the funeral service. In some instances, the family may have to pay for transportation costs.

In addition, clients should find out if the funeral provider will provide a temporary grave marker, which is often provided as part of the outer burial container. This will allow the client to display the name of the deceased during the period that they are not present at the funeral service. Clients should also find out how long it will take for them to have the temporary grave marker in place once the body has been cremated. A funeral provider should make this information clear to clients.
